The Anacostia Waterfront Initiate (AWI) is spearheaded by the Government of District of Columbia to create a hub of economic development zones, bringing thousands of new jobs, residents and visitor to once neglected areas along the banks of Anacostia River. The success of the AWI depends on addressing the accessibility and mobility issues and improving the health of the River itself. As a part of dealing with challenges, this project outlines series of sustainable strategies for the architecture and engineering of Public Rights of Way including environmental stewardship, waterfront access, transformation of multi-modal streets and the quality of surface runoffs.
